WELCOME

Join us as we view the panoramic geology of the Hanksville, Utah area. Travel from the Entrada Sandstone over the Curtis and Summerville Formations. Through the Morrison Formation up over the Cedar Mountain and Dakota Sandstone cap to the Tununk layer of the Mancos Shale. Up onto the ancient Pycnodonte newberryi Oyster Beds. (The Pycnodonte newberryi are in the Gryphaea species of the Cretaceous period 90 to 130 million years old. This link is to the Gryphaea page on Wikipedia.org which we contributed to). From here the view is across the Tununk Fraction to the Ferron Sandstone cap on top.

Ancient Vistas Inc. provides a unique "hands on" experience of geology through fossil samples provided to K-12 schools, and school districts free of charge. We realize that many students never have the opportunity to hold a real part of the ancient past in their hands. We are also planning guided ATV tours over the many geological formations of the area.

Ancient Vistas is a Nonprofit Corporation formed in the State of Utah for the purpose of promoting education in the geosciences. Founders include: Robert D. Gray, Patricia D. Finkelstein, and Steven A. Cordes. The Founders are small town folks who realize the uniqueness of the geology in the area and want to share it.
